Hagström manufactures musical instruments in Alvdalen, Sweden. Originally Hagstrom produced accordions that they initially imported from Germany and then Italy before ,in 1932, opening their own facility. During the sixties, Hagstrom started making electric guitars, and later amplifiers. Early guitars were heavily influenced by the accordion and had a particular look-and-feel. Smear, who has been playing these guitars for over 20 years, is recognized for having one of the largest collections of Hagstroms in the U.S. and is an expert on the guitars durability and road-worthiness. Most notably today, Nicholas McCarthy from the Glaswegian band Franz Ferdinand plays a sparkle red 1959 Hagstrom P46 Sweetone. Many contemporary artists, such as Elvis Presley, Tim Armstrong, Bill Nelson, Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, Aaron North and Pat Smear used Hagstroms.

Please Read The Complete Listing Before Bidding: For sale is a 1969 Hagstrom Jimmy Archtop. This is a relisting of an earlier auction that was taken down due to a few listing errors. The serial # starts with a 743 which means the guitar is from the original run of 480 produced before the original maker stopped producing the bodies. I have owned this guitar for about 7 years. The frets were changed as the originals were very low in profile and width. I replaced them with a Martin style fret which plays a 100 times better than before. In terms of its overall condition, the guitar has no cracks to the neck or body. As a result of the refret, some small pitting can be noticed by the binding which is hard to avoid on this type of finish, but the guitar was unplayable at that point. Some finish cracks are noticeable on the back of the guitar. The overall condition of the guitar is 8.5-9 on a scale of 1-10: the photos do not do any justice to the look of this guitar. Acoustically, even though the top has two pickups, the guitar s unplugged tone is rich and full. Chords fully resonate, and single notes have a really nice, clear sustain. The electronics are all the original parts, but I disabled the treble rolloff switch as it killed the tone of the pickups. With the price of original D Aquisto guitars shooting over $50,000, this guitar is an extreme bargain for an archtop jazz box.
